Using the Birthday Template

Communicating with your clients for their birthdays is essential to maintain and nurture a strong relationship with them.

A message for their birthdays is often expected from your clients, as it is often synonym of bargains or vouchers for this special occasion. Therefore, a birthday campaign usually has a high opening rate and tends to enhance visits and/or purchases on your website.

To help you create your Birthday campaign, Actito has developed a fully customizable Birthday scenario template.

Using the template scenario

To create and customize your scenario, go to the 'Manage Scenarios' app (Catalog > Automation > Manage Scenarios).

Click on 'Create a scenario'.

From 'The essentials' tab, choose the 'Birthday' template and click on 'Next'.

The templates that you see in 'The essentials' tab, are the templates activated by default in your license. The templates available in the 'More inspirations' tab, are templates you can add to your license. To activate one or several of these templates, please contact your account manager.

Once you have chosen your template (or if you start from blank), you will then have to name and link your scenario to a database.

Create scenarios

You will then have access to a pre-defined birthday journey scenario that you can modify to link your campaigns to and that you can customize to suit your needs.

Birthday template structure

By default, this scenario includes :

  • An anniversary start block: which triggers the scenario according to a 'birthday/anniversary' date of each profile. This block is therefore not necessarily linked a birth date, it can refer to registration date, …
  • A segmentation block: to separate profiles according to whether or not they belong to a segmentation to adapt your campaign's type and/or the birthday message (e.g. send an SMS to the profiles in the VIP section and an e-mail to the ones in the other sections).
  • A sending SMS campaign block: to link to a birthday SMS campaign you have created and activated beforehand. More information on the creation of scenarized SMS campaigns, here.
  • A sending e-mail campaign block: to link to an e-mail birthday campaign you have created and activated beforehand. More information on the creation of scenarized e-mail campaigns, here.
  • A waiting for opening mail block: that will stop the flow of the scenario until the profile opens the e-mail campaign. More information on the 'E-mail opened block', here.
  • A second e-mail campaign sending block: that will be sent to profiles who did not opened the first campaign under the given period of time of the waiting block.

The 'Anniversary' block is for profile attributes only. If you want to create a birthday scenario based on a child's birthday or first purchase, you will need to use a 'Targeting' start block.

Once you have set up your scenario, you can save it and activate it.
